Campana Brothers

fernando and humberto campana
the brothers fernando (1961) and humberto campana (1953)
are two of the most famous south american designers.
since 1983, fernando, who graduated in architecture,
and humberto, who studied law, have worked together
in the field of design, or better between art and
design. in their joint studio, a sort of converted garage,
in são paulo, brazil, they develop furniture which are
often based on everyday, ready-made materials
- waste products as well as industrial goods.
some of their designs are manufactured
by edra and cappellini.

lunch spot

I don't know if you guys have ever noticed the stairs to the west of our building. right across the street from the taxi place. it's a good place to sit down and relax.

"Deadline's approaching, and I don't really have anything to show yet."
"I don't know what to do with my project, i'm just not feeling it"

I think everyone's have this similar experiences after a year in our program. sometime we get fed up with so many different things from every class and we spend so much time in the same studio. being stuck in the studio all the time is not always necessarily good for us. go out and get some fresh air. put on your headphones and listen to your favorite music. go to your favorite coffee place and enjoy life in a different way for a little bit. get away from the routine a little bit and maybe it'll bring you some new ideas that will even surprise yourself.

copy left

i was talking with ismael about my project the other day and the conversation some how carried on to everyone learning from each other. and ismael brought up this thing call "copy left" which i've never heard of before. it's basically the opposite of copyright. as a designer, artists, writer...etc to grant rights for everyone to use his/her work. interesting thing to know.

copyleft:

copyleft is a play on the word copyright and is the practice of using copyright law to remove restrictions on distributing copies and modified versions of a work for others and requiring that the same freedoms be preserved in modified versions.

fall 2007 chair project

after a few weeks of hard work. today was finally the presentation for the chair. there were problems of finishing on time but i'm sure we all learned a lot from this project. so basically over the past week, kids from my class stayed over at the studio almost every single night trying to finish up the fabrication of the "infamous" chair project. many chairs came out to be extremely complicated to create and I wished there was more time for everyone to finish. Rik invited great jurors who gave us a lot of critical and constructive critiques which always helps us young designers. thanks rik.
obviously lack of sleep was a problem for most of the people but I was really happy to see people trying to help each other out. Manu stuck through with us even though she wasn't in our class!! thanks manu.
i hope everyone enjoyed and learned a great deal from the project this time. be excited for the next project!! by the way please post your boards or images of your chairs up. good job guys.

The Interior Design Monster

October 5, 2006, Drafting Class:)
I had started a sketch. And then he got me.

can i tell you how long it took me to figure out how to post on this?!

I've been reading the bloggie poo and wanted to contribute! It's really scary how I can still feel the pressure creepin' up my bones and suffocating me from the inside when I read..creepy.
But I'm out here now, and design management is fun! I learn about design and all that gushy stuff that I love, but don't want to commit suicide! Haha. I miss you all! There aren't really any people that instantly connect out here, like everyone @ studio..or not..but whatever lol which is why I joined a sorority..still getting a feel for my "sisters" lol they are really great girls. but they are girls...and care about girl stuff...and do girl things...haha...I know I said this already but I really miss everyone. I'm going to register for classes in a couple of weeks, which can only mean ONE thing: KOREAN CLASS HERE I COME! hahahaha I can't wait, i'm going to kick some korean language ass, guys! hahaha..well I feel a tad silly writing on here since I don't take interior anymore, even though jimi did invite me, I lava lava you guys. STAY STRONG. don't let it get you. (it=the interior design monster) speaking of the interior design monster, i found this sketchbook that i started last year but didnt finish and brought with me here, and i drew the interior design monster and i wrote "paige will not be eaten by the interior design monster. paige will sketch." HAHA. that was a totalll side note. but anyway, don't let it eat you. even though he's realllllyhungry.

Aspire to Inspire

Hey- So went into the studio today at 8am with Hanna and Eunbee, got nothing done and we probably became more crazy in the process of trying to figure out a design for the chair project. Yea, we know, we should have had our designs down pact, since a weeks ago, but I don't think people really understand how hard it is to build a life size chair out of cardboard, that you actually like.

After begin in the studio from 8am-3pm, me and Manu went to see the screening of "WE OWN THE NIGHT", starring Jaoquin Phoenix, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes and Robert Duvall. The movie was really good and to make it even better James Gray the director was there, he was hilarious and I got a better understanding of the whole movie. Bedtime ^_^

So it's about 12:30 am right now and i've drawn about 10 sq. inches of marble so far....

...I've been here since 8.

i should lie in my bed

vertical project, some people had fun and some people thought it was a waste of time. the department offered a lot of money though.

i don't know what this guy is looking for in my fridge. oh tormi.

still sick, i wanna start my chair but the studio is a dangerous place to go. i know i'll get sick again if i go to the studio. went to sauna with mairo yesterday. it was amazing. i sweated like crazy. i think i did sweat some of those virus out of me.

secret sunshine

what do you do when god forgives your enemy before you do? the Christianity part of the movie "secret sunshine" was something I wasn't really expecting to see in this movie. the relationship between shin ae (played by jeon do-yeon) and god played a good part throughout the movie after the tragic lost of husband and son. its point of view on christianity is awfully real on the surface. singing, praying, and people acting like they don't really see the reality. it's true but it's only the surface of Christianity because the indescribable Christian spirituality is beyond our five senses. it was over all good actor and actress but i wish the story was more complete.

today is october 2nd. i had a hard day shivering at the studio yesterday. fever and coughing. not a good sign for the chair project. we got our cardboards yesterday. some serious cardboards. about 150 sheets of 4 by 8 cardboards. Ismael saw the boards and was like, "you're gonna build a house?" 13 days
