came across a post about graduates from University College Falmouth making posters to give advice to younger students. each poster contains a short message such as: "collaborate" "let go of what you think you know" "be yourself" and ..... it's pretty cool what they have to say and the posters are interesting too.

guys, sorry for the lack of updates. hope everyone's had a good time off. yesterday manu invited me to join her and greg at this panel with Michel Gondry, the maker of "eternal sunhine of the spotless mind" and "the science of sleep," in soho. it was an event arranged by indieWIRE. This French director was quite an amazing and funny individual. He was also sharing about how he came about to become who he is today. As a kid, Michel Gondry said he was always quite but always interested in observing creating little things. He also said he was lucky to have his parents' support for his creative works.

on January 24th, his new film "Be kind Rewind" is going to have an exhibit at Deitch.

From systematic occupation of public spaces in containers to the construction of prostheses in facades, patios, covers and lots, he negociates legal and illegal zones, as a reminder of the pervasive control to which we are all subject.

Bruce M. Tharp from core77 did an interview, "positively every worthy issue in design," with Don Norman where they touched upon the topic of designing for task or people. It takes on a different look in design, I think definitely for many interior designers. does your product really functions well while it has a sleek look of design.

Don Norman is a professor emeritus of cognitive science at University of California, San Diego and a Professor of Computer Science at Northwestern University, where he also co-directs the dual degree MBA + Engineering degree program between the Kellogg school and Northwestern Engineering.

Me and Hanna checked out the Asian Contemporary Art Fair at Pier 92 today, where we ran into Marieke!! The art fair was amazing, their was so much to see in such a short amount of time but it was so inspirational and cultural for both me and Hanna. It made me want to pick up a paint brush and paint or take pictures of all the beautiful things the world has to offer. I think sometimes, we just get so caught up in our lives that we tend to forget what the world really has to offer us and how inspirational our surroundings really are, so take sometime to just look around and "to bask in the ambiance".

Thanks Hanna for telling us about the art fair.. our date was amazing two thumbs up!!

MVRDV is a Rotterdam, the Netherlands-based architecture and urban design practice founded in 1991. The name is an acronym for the founding members: Winy Maas (1959), Jacob van Rijs (1964) and Nathalie de Vries (1965). Maas and Van Rijs worked at OMA, the office of Rem Koolhaas, De Vries at Mecanoo before starting MVRDV.

Their first realised commission was the new offices for VPRO in Hilversum (NL) (1993-1997). Other built works include: Wozoco housing, Amsterdam (1994-1997) and the Dutch Pavilion at the Hannover World Exhibition Expo 2000 (1997-2000).

Recent publications include KM3 EXCURSIONS ON CAPACITIES (Actar, Barcelona, 2006)

The Third Bridge by Osman Akan
October 14, 2007 - January 14, 2008

On October 2007, DAC launches Outer Space, a new series of solo commissions in the public realm, independent of the annual festival, one to three months in duration and created by mid-career artists (festival projects cater primarily to emerging artists).

The pilot project of the series is The Third Bridge by Osman Akan. The work will be installed in the Brooklyn Bridge Park, on the waterfront between the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges from October 14, 2007 - January 14, 2008.

"Life is a bridge," the Eastern proverb goes. "Cross over it, but build no house on its span." An invitation since time immemorial to ramble on, the idea of the bridge has served—literally and metaphorically—to connect where we are right now to where we wish to arrive. Like the romance of the road, it's best considered as a means and not an end; to act otherwise invites arrested development, immaturity, dreams deferred.

Also a powerful metaphor for unity, the desire to build bridges is, by definition, a progressive urge. The driving force behind bridges propels the race toward improvements of both the material and metaphysical kind. Think of the telephone, the railroad and the multistory building, for example. Each of these, in its time, was a piece of cutting edge technology—a bridge linking ambition and achievement. Inventions like these made men dream and, just as importantly, improved the way they got their wares to market.

It comes as no surprise, then, that bridges—in their ideal form and as feats of engineering—have long inspired artists to sing their praises. From Wordsworth's "Composed Upon Westminster Bridge" to Hart Crane's ecstatic canto to the Brooklyn Bridge to a recent documentary on the Golden Gate Bridge's suicide appeal, bridges—especially the world's more impressive structures—invite the mind to dream big, pushing the limits of the imagination toward new ideas about established ways of living.

found a list of bookstores for design and architecture from archidose. I decided to go to the first one on the list after my visit to the Asian Contemperary Art Fair. it's a tiny space comparing to most of the bookstores in the city. but it's got gems that barnes and noble don't carry.
